Mission Statement
Are you avoiding a conversation you need to have with someone? It might be a co-worker, your supervisor, or someone you supervise. No matter how competent we are, we all experience conversations that cause us anxiety and frustration. This workshop will give you the tools you need to prepare for that difficult conversation and keep it focused and constructive. You will learn how to address the real issues and how to manage strong emotions - yours and theirs. The conversations we have, or don't have, shape our relationships and our workplace. You can make a difference, one conversation at a time.
Have you thought about pursuing a doctorate in higher education? This panel will share their experiences on their doctoral program, working full-time or part-time, and balancing school with everything else. Attend this session and learn more about how to make this decision and how to manage this addition should you choose to pursue this degree.
Greg Roberts, Executive Director of the American College Personnel Association, will be covering the following topics:
— Higher Education Reauthorization Act,
— Secretary of Educations continuing issues,
— Potential impact of a change in leadership in the White House,
— Federal Legislation pending that affect students,
— The Amethyst Initiative (18 year old drinking laws).
Do you have a project that you may want to delegate to another person? With the frequent reality of managing multiple projects, delegation has become a necessary tool for ensuring that goals are achieved, deadlines are met, and the abilities of individuals are maximized. This workshop will help you identify tasks appropriate for delegation, as well as useful tools to aid in the development and implementation of an effective delegation plan. Identify a specific project, task, or job duty that you want to delegate to another person. We’ll work through the delegation process during this workshop.
Let the battles begin!!
Customer service in higher education is more than we ever thought it would be. It is about creating a welcoming environment, helping students navigate a complex system, enhancing learning, and exemplifying the spirit of the institution. Every interaction counts. It makes a difference. It defines who we are. In this session, we will see what makes customer service in higher education unique and understand the far reaching implications of poorly managed moments of truth. Skills and suggestions for enhancing service delivery on the individual and departmental levels will be provided.
The Vice Provost for Student Success is proud to sponsor the 6th Annual Student Success Professional Development Day on January 26, 2009.
