Student Success Priorities:

ASSESSMENT

Meeting Notes

April 13, 2004

Attendance: Jane Tuttle, Diana Robertson, Sean McCarty, Emily Malin, Vince Avila, Joann Keyton, Karen Multon, Bill Kummerow.

Next & LAST Meeting: April 27th 1:30 – 2:30pm Provost Conference Room Agenda is final report.

Notes:
Diana walked us through the model that she, Vince, and Joann prototyped in the four areas of Department of Student Housing. Diana has since sent the updated Model that is attached.

It is important to note:

  • That this is a process and not a form to be completed;
  • That someone who can make it actionable must complete this process. The person who implements the program needs to be /involved with conducting the assessment;
  • That this process be part of the planning and budgeting process.

There were some questions that came up during the prototyping and we answered them as follows:

  • The process need to be thoroughly explained and people trained to do it.
  • That there needs to be a series of evaluation methods workshops to train people;
  • That the success factors need definition and perhaps refinement. They are no longer just the 9 student success factors given to us by Dr. Roney; rather, they now include 2 more success factors for the departments that do not provide direct student services;
  • That Section D could become the document given to the Director.
  • Perhaps we need a Section E that would be the follow through from the assessment. What did you learn; what are you going to do with this information?

We feel that we have met our initial charge: Develop a general assessment model that can be implemented by each Student Success department and that can be used as a framework to assess the effectiveness of the various Priorities. The result should be documentable evidence that substantiates the effect of our programs and services.

Dr. Johnson has indicated that while he and Dr. Roney do not need to meet with us at this time and that he appreciates our work to date.
