Notes:

We reviewed the charge and understand that we are to come up with a model or models for the various units within Student Success to use and that our task should be completed by May 1st. The framework/model that we develop needs to be applicable to all the offices within Student Success and it must not be too broad to be useful. We want to take the concept of assessment into a concrete tool: operationalize it.

We discussed the need to understand the goals and objectives of Student Success and for each office/unit to have goals and objectives. We talked about the areas within Student Success: some having direct influence on students and others having indirect influence. We also thought it would be important not to introduce the assessment tools during the budgeting process.

As we discussed assessment and its goals we agreed that the process was what this group should be concerned with. We are cognizant of our need to keep the goals of retention and timeliness to graduation, as well as contributions to the quality of campus life as factors in our assessment efforts. It became clear that the narrative to the models/framework will be very important.

Jane will ask Dr. Roney for a PowerPoint presentation that she has given the organization about our mission. The Learning Imperative provides a foundation for understanding student affairs role in the academy. It can be found at http://www.acpa.nche.edu/sli/sli.htm

Next meeting we will outline the components or themes for assessment in the units. Quality of campus life is something we need to explore.
