College of Liberal Arts & Sciences

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, also known as the College or CLA&S, was established in 1893. It is one of 14 academic divisions at KU and encompasses 53 departments and programs. More than 1400 faculty members and graduate teaching assistants teach in the College, and more than 17,000 students are enrolled. Nearly half of the students at KU earn their bachelor's degrees from the College.

The College Student Academic Services (SAS) office is an academic support office for College departments and for students pursuing baccalaureate degrees within the College. We assist students in the development of educational plans, the clarification of career and life goals, and the appreciation of the values of a liberal arts education. Our system is one of shared responsibility in which all members of the College community (faculty, students and staff) interact to achieve advising goals and desired student outcomes.
