PROFESSIONAL INVOLVEMENT __________________________ Matt Beckendorf (DSH) has begun his second year as the Chair of the Nominating and Site-Recruitment Committee for UMR-ACUHO. Andrea Brown (SILC) was selected to serve as Graduate Staff for the annual meeting of the Association of Fraternity Advisors. Laura Burrows (DSH) is the Kansas Membership Coordinator for NASPA IV-West. Mary Andrade Carlson (UCC) served on the Midwest Association of Colleges
and Employers (MWACE) 2006 Annual Conference Program Committee. Cindy Derritt (OUR) is serving as Vice President for Records and Registration
for the Kansas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions
Officers. Nancy Espinosa (CAPS) has been appointed to the Douglas County Community Corrections and Youth Services Advisory Board. Lee Furbeck (OAS) attended the annual leadership meeting of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) in Washington DC, December 2006. Lee also served as a member of the national Public Policy Taskforce. David Gaston (UCC) was appointed chair of the Leadership Strategy Committee for the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). Nona Golledge (Unions) Marketing Chair for 2009 NACUFS (National Association of College and University Food Service) National Conference. Eric Grospitch (DSH) is Regional Membership Coordinator - NASPA IV-West and the National Awards Category Coordinator, NASPA Excellence Awards. Kip Grosshans (DSH) will be serving an additional 2-year term on the "best practices" task force - preliminary recommendations to be presented in October at the national convention in San Diego - CUPA-HR (College & University Professional Association - Human Resources). Jo Hardesty (LSS) attended and presented at the National Legal Aid and Defender Association Student Legal Services conference in Seattle, WA in July 2006. Jo is on the Executive Committee as the secretary and is also a regional governor for this organization whose members are law offices on college and university campuses around the world. Jo is a member of the Douglas County Bar Association, the American Bar Association and recently joined the Section of Taxation, Law Practice Management and General Practice/Government Law divisions. Jo Hardesty (LSS) and Michele Kessler (LSS) are current members of the Douglas County Bar Association. Marla Herron (OUR) is serving on the Mentor Committee of the American
Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers. Gail James (AAAC) attended a Learning Communities Conference in Bay City MI, November 2006. Chris Johnson (SIS) is teaching SCAN 753/906 Introduction to Old Norse during the Spring 2007 semester. Old Norse is the cover term for the written and spoken languages of early medieval Scandinavia. Angela King (SILC) was chosen to serve as a judge for the Mid-American Greek Council Association. Lisa Pinamonti Kress (OAS) is the chair of the Kansas ACT Council. Ashley Marriott (OAS) is the 2006-07 co-chair, Great Plains Association of College Admission Counseling (GPACAC) conference Planning Committee. Dan McCarthy (FSAC) was elected to a 2 year-term as Communications Representative to the Kansas Academic Advising Network (KAAN) Steering Committee. Mark Pickerel (SIS) and Sheri Phillips (SIS) received training on the Academic Advising Module in Orange County, California, in November 2006. Nick Prewett (OSFA) attended the 2006 Rocky Mountain Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (RMASFAA) Summer Institute in Golden CO. Kathy Rose-Mockry (SILC) Board of Directors, Hilltop Child Development Center, Independence Inc. and is on the pre-conference planning committee for Women’s Center for the National Women’s Studies Association. Andrew Shoemaker (AAAC) conference chair for the 2006 Kansas Learning Disabilities Association conference in Lawrence and is the current vice president of the Kansas Learning Disabilities Association of Kansas, November 2006. Wendy Shoemaker (UCC) completed Career Development Facilitator Instructor (CDF-I) training in May. CDF-I is a nationally recognized program that trains career development facilitators. Wendy also is serving on the Kansas Association of Colleges and Employers (KACE) Fall 2006 Annual Conference Program Committee. Gina Starnes (UCC) served on the Board of Directors for the Southwest Association of Colleges and Employers (SWACE) 2006 Conference. She also served as co-chair of the Sponsorship Committee, and chair of the Family Companion Committee for the (SWACE) 2006 Conference. While on the Sponsorship Committee, Gina raised a record amount of $43,000. Gina has again been appointed to serve as co-chair of the Sponsorship Committee for their 2007 conference in San Antonio TX. Kathy Talbot (Unions) served as the National Association of Campus Archivists (NACA) Regional Conference Publications Coordinator for 2006. Jayme Uden (DSH) is completing a 3 year term on the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) Commission for Housing and Residential Life. Jennifer Wamelink (DSH) has just completed her 2-year term as the Treasurer for UMR-ACUHO. UMR-ACUHO is the Upper Midwest Region of the Association of College and University Housing. (DSH) Leon Hayner, Sarah Hayner, Laura Remington-Schroeder, and Melanie Lee served on UMR-ACUHO committees. (DSH) Diana Robertson, David De Cecco and Evelia Sandoval served on the Kansas Student Affairs Conference (KSAC) planning committee. Diana Robertson is also serving on the ACUHO-I Certification Task Force. (LSS) Mary Curtis, Laura Diaz Moore, and Jo Hardesty are participating in the KU Mentor Program for first-year law students. |
