What is LeaderShape?
LeaderShape exists to inspire, develop, and support more people committed to lead with integrity. To date, over 20,000 participants from colleges, universities, and corporations from across the country have attended The
LeaderShape Institute.
In addition, more than 2,500 volunteer faculty have contributed their time and talents since the program began in 1986.

2009 will bring the 12th year of the LeaderShape Institute on Kansas’ campus. Graduates of the program this year will join a group of about 650 students, alumni, and administrators who have graduated from or facilitated the program. Named by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation as an "exemplary program," The LeaderShape Institute is an intensive, energizing, six-day educational experience designed to equip young adults to become extraordinary leaders. Each session of The LeaderShape Institute is comprised of approximately 60 students from diverse ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds. The Institute's curriculum is presented by a group of facilitators who are all highly respected in their own professions and serve as excellent role models for the students.
Much of the week's work is done in small groups called "family clusters", which create a safe, supportive learning environment that allows participants to work together, form close friendships, and benefit from new perspectives. Individuals experience teamwork, practice ethical decision making, deal with change and chaos, clarify personal values and explore the values of others. Each student works to define his/her personal vision — an extraordinary commitment to changing or contributing to the world in a positive way.
Based on that vision, participants then develop a blueprint for the action that they will undertake when they return home — with the objective of effecting meaningful, measurable change in their organization during the next 9-12 months. With the guidance of LeaderShape facilitators, participants complete a blueprint that identifies the goals, relationships, and action steps that are essential to the project’s success.
Dynamic, challenging, and exciting, the week is intended to produce a breakthrough in the leadership capacity of participants — benefiting the students themselves, their respective organizations, and the institutions that they will go on to lead and serve in the future.
What does LeaderShape Cost?
LeaderShape is extremely cost effective for participants as most of the expenses are covered by fundraising efforts. Funding support is needed to cover the $36,000 annual budget and leaving students responsible for only $50. With your contribution and the minimal cost to students, participants receive a six day, five night stay at a remote retreat location, transportation to and from, all meals, a tee shirt, a binder full of resources, and more!
